Aracena, Huelva

From the crystal cave to the daily market

Think of a marble mountain hiding a crystal cave. Think of mature green chestnut trees, leaves dancing to the harmony of a summer breeze. Then you are thinking of Aracena, gateway to the Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche and, through an accident of geology, one of the most beautiful villages in the Sierra Morena.

Aracena is a fairy cake village of white washed house that huddle together as if for protection from the summer sun and winter storms; a throw-back to the days where security from the unknown was provided by the powerful protection of an invincible fortress and self-belief.
